MAFIA members must be given a brief session on how to use the equipment properly before they are allowed to operate it on their-own. This is called getting the "Low Down" on equipment, as we just give you the basics on how to use the stuff without breaking it, it takes about 25 minutes, so don't freak out, it's not like a class or anything, we just want to get the equipment back in one piece. "Low Down's" can only be done by an authorized MAFIA Officer or designated trainer, and are scheduled twice a semester. Note, you do NOT need to be trained ("low down") to be a MAFIA member, or to work on MAFIA films, however, only trained members can initiate their own projects. You only need to be trained once in your membership lifetime, we'll fill you in on new equipment as we get it.   - WHAT DOES IT CO$T ? There is no cost affiliated with MAFIA, membership, equipment use and training is free, there are NO dues.   - WHAT IS THE PURPOSE/GOAL OFMAFIA? To help and support Miami students make their own films. and meet others with similar loves.   - WHAT IS THE OXFORD INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL?  The Oxford International Film Festival (OIFF) is the regions largest and only major international film festival, which will takes place every April in Oxford, Ohio and is co-sponsored by MAFIA. The festival takes submissions throughout the year (from around the globe) and features the top 100 films in the 4-day long festival. Filmmakers from around the nation and around the world come to Oxford to promote their films which will screen at locations around the city. Judges vote for the best films which win cash-prizes and other awards. An black-tie GALA premiere takes place as a part of the event as well as concerts, nightly high-class catered parties, workshops, celebrity guests and more. The best MAFIA-produced films from the previous year also regularly premiere at the festival.
